Stainless steel seamless pipes are manufactured according to different international and national standards, which define requirements for materials, dimensions, mechanical properties, testing, and quality — including ASTM, EN, and GB/T stainless steel seamless pipe standards. Made without interfaces, gaps, or welds, these pipes offer excellent corrosion resistance and high strength, and are produced by hot rolling, cold rolling, cold drawing, and other methods across austenitic, nickel-cobalt alloy, and martensitic stainless steel series.


They are widely used in chemical, petroleum, power, aerospace, shipbuilding, and pharmaceutical industries, performing reliably under high temperature, high pressure, low temperature, and strongly corrosive conditions while maintaining pipeline sealing and stability.


General Specifications Covered by Standards

 

Pipe dimensions and wall thickness are determined according to the applicable manufacturing standard, material grade, and service requirements. There are many specifications and models of stainless steel seamless pipes. According to different production processes and materials, they can be divided into the following common specifications and models:


1. Outer diameter range: Φ6-Φ830mm; wall thickness range: 0.5-55mm; length range: unlimited; normal production length 6m-12m.
2. Wall thickness model of stainless steel seamless round tube: SCH-5S, SCH-10S, SCH-20S, SCH-40S, SCH-80S, etc.
3. Wall thickness model of stainless steel seamless square tube: 1.0mm-20mm.
4. Wall thickness model of stainless steel seamless rectangular tube: 1.0mm-20mm.

Stainless Steel Seamless Pipe Standards and Quality Requirements

 

As an important pipe material, the quality of stainless steel seamless pipes must comply with recognized manufacturing standards. ASTM, EN, and GB/T stainless steel seamless pipe standards are the most commonly referenced worldwide for material, dimensional, mechanical, and testing requirements.

Among ASTM stainless steel seamless pipe standards, the following are most widely applied:


ASTM A312— Standard specification for seamless and welded austenitic stainless steel pipe, widely used for general corrosive and high-temperature service, for example in 304 or 316 stainless steel seamless pipe.

ASTM A213—Standard specification for seamless ferritic and austenitic alloy-steel boiler, superheater, and heat-exchanger tubes, used where elevated-temperature performance is required.

ASTM A269 — Standard specification for seamless and welded austenitic stainless steel tubing for general service, including instrumentation and sanitary applications.

ASTM A789 — Standard specification for seamless and welded ferritic/austenitic (duplex) stainless steel tubing for general service, combining high strength with corrosion resistance.


As one of the EN stainless steel seamless pipe standards, EN 10216-5 covers seamless steel tubes for pressure purposes, technical delivery conditions for stainless steel tubes, commonly applied in European markets.

Among GB/T stainless steel seamless pipe standards, GB/T 14975 is a Chinese national standard for seamless stainless steel tubes used in structural and general engineering applications.

GB/T 14976—Chinese national standard for seamless stainless steel tubes used in fluid transport and general service piping.

When producing and using stainless steel seamless pipes, the corresponding standard should be selected according to the operating conditions and stainless steel pipe pressure rating requirements, and the applicable quality requirements should be followed to ensure performance and safety.
