What should We Pay Attention to when Installing Seamless Steel Pipes?

Generally, seamless steel pipes are made by hot rolling or cold rolling of 10, 20, 30, 35, 45 carbon steel, 16Mn, 5MnV and other low alloy structural steels or 40Cr, 30CrMnSi, 45Mn2, 40MnB and other alloy steels. Seamless steel pipes made of low carbon steel such as 10 and 20 are mainly used for fluid transportation pipelines. Seamless pipes made of medium carbon steel such as 45 and 40Cr are used to manufacture mechanical parts, such as load-bearing parts of automobiles and tractors.

 

The specifications of seamless steel pipes are expressed in millimeters of outer diameter*wall thickness. Seamless steel pipes are divided into two categories: hot-rolled and cold-rolled (drawn) seamless steel pipes. Hot rolled seamless steel pipes are divided into general steel pipes, low and medium pressure boiler steel pipes, high pressure boiler steel pipes, alloy steel pipes, stainless steel pipes, petroleum cracking pipes, geological steel pipes and other steel pipes. Cold rolled (drawn) seamless steel pipes are divided into general steel pipes, low and medium pressure boiler steel pipes, high pressure boiler steel pipes, alloy steel pipes, stainless steel pipes, petroleum cracking pipes, and also include carbon thin-walled steel pipes, alloy thin-walled steel pipes, stainless thin-walled steel pipes, special-shaped steel pipes

 

The outer diameter of hot-rolled seamless pipe is generally greater than 32mm, and the wall thickness is 2.5-75mm. The outer diameter of cold-rolled seamless steel pipe can be up to 6mm, and the wall thickness can be up to 0.25mm. The outer diameter of thin-walled pipe can be up to 5mm and the wall thickness is less than 0.25mm. The size of cold-rolled seamless steel pipe is larger than that of hot-rolled seamless steel pipe.

 

When installing seamless steel pipes, pay attention to the following matters:

 

1. When seamless steel pipes are transported, irrelevant personnel are not allowed to approach the stressed wire ropes and pulleys.

 

2. The ground anchors, main pulleys, anchor rings, wire ropes, etc. used for transporting and hoisting seamless steel pipes should be calculated and checked, and have sufficient stability coefficients. Corresponding load tests should also be carried out before formal use.

 

3. When installing seamless steel pipes in vertical wells or tunnels, if loose rocks are found in the tunnel and there are signs of landslides, workers should leave the dangerous area and resume construction only after taking protective measures.

 

4. When hoisting and aligning seamless steel pipes, it is strictly forbidden to put your head, hands, or feet into or lie on the pipe mouth to prevent rolling or squeezing injuries.

 

5. Footboards, baffles, support frames, handrails, etc. temporarily welded on seamless steel pipes should be carefully inspected after welding and can only be used after they are confirmed to be firm.

 

6. When welding inside seamless steel pipes, someone should be on guard and the temperature inside the pipe should not exceed 40°C. Otherwise, rotation operations should be implemented or other heatstroke prevention and cooling measures should be taken.

The uses of seamless steel pipes are classified as follows

 

1. Seamless steel pipe for structure. Mainly used for general structure and mechanical structure.

 

2. Seamless steel pipes for conveying fluids. Mainly used for conveying fluids in engineering and large equipment.

 

3. Seamless steel pipes for low and medium pressure boilers. Mainly used for pipelines for conveying low and medium pressure fluids in industrial boilers and domestic boilers.

 

4. Seamless steel pipes for high-pressure boilers. Mainly used for high-temperature and high-pressure fluid transport headers and pipelines on boilers in power plants and nuclear power plants.

 

5. Carbon steel and carbon manganese steel seamless steel pipes for ships. Mainly used for Class I and II pressure-resistant pipes for ship boilers and super heaters, etc.

 

6. Seamless steel pipes for high-pressure fertilizer equipment. Mainly used for pipelines for conveying high-temperature and high-pressure fluids on fertilizer equipment.

 

7. Seamless steel pipe for petroleum cracking. Mainly used for boilers, heat exchangers and fluid delivery pipelines in petroleum refineries.

 

8. Seamless steel pipe for gas cylinders. Mainly used to make various gas and hydraulic cylinders.
