Spiral pipe (SSAW) VS. Seamless pipe (SMLS): Which pipe is more durable?
Spiral pipes and seamless pipes are common pipe types. They each have their own characteristics. Which pipe is more durable needs to be compared and analyzed from many aspects.
1. From a structural point of view
The spiral pipe is made of steel plates that are crimped and welded, and the welds are distributed in a spiral along the axis of the pipe. Seamless pipes are processed through steel pipe perforation, hot rolling or cold drawing, without welds. Therefore, seamless pipes are relatively more complete in structure, do not have the potential weaknesses of welds, and are theoretically more durable.
2. From the perspective of manufacturing process
The manufacturing process of seamless pipes is relatively complex and requires multiple processes and heat treatments, so its manufacturing cost is high. The manufacturing process of spiral tubes is relatively simple and the cost is low. However, this does not mean that the spiral pipe is not durable, because durability depends not only on manufacturing cost, but also on factors such as materials, use environment, etc.
3. From the material point of view
Both spiral pipes and seamless pipes can be made of the same or similar materials, such as carbon steel, stainless steel, etc. Therefore, there is no significant difference between the two in terms of material selection. However, since there may be welding defects at the welds of spiral pipes, such as pores, cracks, etc., these defects may become potential weaknesses during the use of the pipeline and affect the durability of the pipeline.
4. From the perspective of usage environment
Different pipe types are suitable for different usage environments. For example, when spiral pipes transport corrosive media, their welds may be more susceptible to corrosion, thus affecting their durability. Seamless pipes are relatively more resistant to corrosive media because they have no welds.
Conclusion:
Spiral pipes and seamless pipes each have their own advantages and disadvantages, and there is no absolute advantage or disadvantage in terms of durability. When selecting the type of pipeline, comprehensive considerations need to be made based on the specific use environment, medium characteristics, working pressure and other factors. In some specific usage scenarios, seamless pipes may be more suitable, while in other scenarios, spiral pipes may be more advantageous. Therefore, when selecting the pipeline type, specific analysis should be carried out based on the actual situation.
