What is low-carbon steel seamless pipe?
Low-carbon steel
seamless pipe is a seamless pipe made from carbon steel with a carbon content ≤0.25% through processes such as piercing and rolling. It has moderate strength, excellent plasticity and toughness, and is easy to process, making it one of the most widely used basic pipe materials in the industrial field. Due to its excellent processing performance, it is often referred to as "
mild steel" in the industry.
Performance characteristics of low-carbon steel seamless pipe:
1. Excellent plasticity and toughness: The low carbon content ensures the ductility of the steel, facilitating cold working such as bending, flaring, and stamping, and reducing the likelihood of cracking.
2. Moderate strength: Meets the load-bearing requirements of medium and low pressure and general structural components, offering excellent cost performance. Its yield strength ≥ 245 MPa, and tensile strength 415-550 MPa.
3. Good weldability: The low carbon equivalent prevents the formation of hardened structures in the weld heat-affected zone, allowing for high-quality welds without complex preheating. Carbon equivalent Ceq ≤ 0.40%, suitable for field welding.
4. Seamless Integrity: Compared to welded steel pipes, the weld seam is completely eliminated, resulting in higher reliability under pressure fluctuations and vibration conditions. It is particularly suitable for medium- and low-pressure applications with high safety requirements, such as hydraulic systems and rotating machinery.
5. Basic Corrosion Resistance: Carbon steel itself is not corrosion-resistant and requires surface treatments such as galvanizing, plastic coating, and epoxy coating to improve durability.
Manufacturing Processes:
Hot-rolled pipe: High production efficiency, low cost, suitable for general structures and mass production applications.
Cold-drawn pipe: High dimensional accuracy (up to H8-H9 grade), smooth surface, suitable for hydraulic cylinders and precision mechanical components.
Common Sizes:
Outer diameter from Φ10mm to Φ630mm, wall thickness from 1.0mm to 40mm, common lengths are 6m or 12m.
Delivery Condition: Usually delivered in hot-rolled, cold-drawn, or normalized condition.
Typical Applications:
Low-carbon steel seamless pipes, due to their economic efficiency, ease of processing, and weld-free characteristics, are widely used in various industries:
1. Fluid Transportation: Water supply and drainage pipes, fire-fighting pipes, low-pressure steam pipes, compressed air pipes
2. Machinery Manufacturing: Hydraulic cylinders, pneumatic cylinders, bearing sleeves, drive shafts, conveyor rollers
3. Building Structures: Scaffolding, steel structure support columns, bridge railings, space frame structures
4. Automotive Industry: Drive shafts, shock absorber reservoir cylinders, exhaust pipe supports
5. Everyday Products: Furniture frames, sports equipment, lamp posts, clothes racks
