Carbon Steel Pipe Welding Method and Precautions

Date:2023-07-24    keywords: carbon steel pipe welding
Carbon steel is a type of steel pipe alloy. The common carbon steel pipes in daily production can be divided into three types: high, medium and low carbon. The first type has a maximum carbon content of more than 0.6%, and the higher the carbon content, the more brittle it is. Therefore, this type of steel pipe will not be used in industrial production. The carbon content of the medium carbon steel pipe will be between %0.25~%0.6, and its hardness is more suitable for use.The carbon content of the third type is less than %0.25, which is similar to normal steel pipes, so it is also very common in industrial production.

Carbon steel pipes are made of steel ingots or solid round steel through perforation into capillary tubes, and then made by hot rolling, cold rolling or cold drawing. Carbon steel pipe plays an important role in my country's steel pipe industry.

1) Welding method of carbon steel pipe

Carbon steel pipe can be joined using a variety of welding methods, including the following:

1. Manual arc welding (SMAW)
Manual arc welding is a relatively common welding method. In manual arc welding, a hand-held electrode is used to introduce current into the arc to join steel pipes together.

2. Gas metal arc welding (GMAW)
MIG welding is a commonly used automatic welding method. Inert gas or active gas can be used for shielding during MIG welding to avoid the influence of air on welding quality.

3. Master the welding parameters
When welding, it is necessary to master the appropriate welding parameters, including current, voltage and welding speed. If the welding parameters are not set correctly, it will lead to poor welding quality.

4. Pay attention to the protective gas
When performing gas shielded welding, it is necessary to pay attention to the type and flow of shielding gas. The choice of shielding gas should be selected according to the specific welding materials and welding procedures.

5. Avoid thermal cracking
When welding, it is necessary to avoid hot cracking. In general, the problem of hot cracking can be dealt with by appropriately reducing the welding temperature and generating stress.
