Introduction to 304 Stainless Steel Welded Pipe

Date:2025-06-19    keywords: 304 stainless steel welded pipe, 304 stainless steel, welded pipe

304 stainless steel welded pipe, referred to as 304 welded pipe, is made of high-quality 304 stainless steel material. 304 stainless steel is a general-purpose stainless steel material with stronger anti-rust performance than 200 series stainless steel materials. It also contains chromium and nickel elements, which enables a dense oxide film to form on its surface, thereby enhancing its corrosion resistance.

Appearance and structure

304 stainless steel welded pipe has smooth surface, compact structure and wide range of diameters, generally 6mm, 630mm, and the maximum diameter can reach 1800mm. Its thickness can also be adjusted according to customer needs, generally between 1.2mm and 30mm. In addition, 304 stainless steel welded pipe has high precision, uniform wall thickness, and high brightness inside and outside the pipe.

Performance characteristics

1. Corrosion resistance: 304 stainless steel welded pipe has excellent stainless corrosion resistance and good intergranular corrosion resistance. It has strong corrosion resistance in nitric acid below the boiling temperature with a concentration of ≤65%. It also has good corrosion resistance to alkaline solutions and most organic and inorganic acids.

2. High temperature resistance: 304 stainless steel welded pipe has good high temperature resistance and can withstand temperatures as high as 1000~1200 degrees.

3. High strength: The yield strength of 304 stainless steel welded pipe is ≥205N/mm², and the tensile strength is ≥520N/mm², which can withstand greater pressure and impact.

4. Easy to process and weld: 304 stainless steel welded pipe is easy to process and weld, and can adapt to various complex piping systems. Welding methods include manual welding, automatic welding and laser welding.

Production process

The production process of 304 stainless steel welded pipe mainly includes the following steps:

1. Pickling: Put the stainless steel 304 material into the pickling equipment for pickling to remove the oxide layer and dirt on the surface and improve the surface quality and welding performance.

2. Passivation treatment: The pickled stainless steel 304 material is passivated to form a dense oxide film to improve its corrosion resistance.

3. Welding: The pickled and passivated stainless steel 304 material is welded to form a welded pipe.

4. Cutting: Cut the polished welded pipe to form the required length of welded pipe.

5. Heat treatment: The welded pipe after cutting is heat treated to eliminate internal stress and improve its mechanical properties.

6. Correction: The welded pipe after heat treatment is corrected to ensure its straightness and roundness.

Application areas

The application fields of 304 stainless steel welded pipe are very wide, including but not limited to:

1. Petrochemical industry: used to transport various corrosive media, such as acid, alkali, salt, etc.

2. Food processing: Due to its good hygiene and corrosion resistance, it is widely used in the piping system of the food industry.

3. Building water supply and drainage: widely used due to its high corrosion resistance and good mechanical properties.

4. Mechanical manufacturing: used to manufacture various mechanical parts and equipment.

In addition, 304 stainless steel welded pipes can also be used in industries such as electricity, metallurgy, thermal power, air conditioning, gas, water treatment, as well as the manufacture of transportation vehicles such as automobiles, ships, and airplanes.

Maintenance and care

In order to ensure the long-term stable operation of 304 stainless steel welded pipes, the following maintenance and care should be performed regularly:

1. Inspection: Regularly inspect the 304 stainless steel welded pipe to ensure that there is no damage, rust or cracking on the surface and no other phenomena on the weld.

2. Cleaning: Clean the inner and outer walls of the pipe regularly to remove impurities such as oil and dirt, and keep the surface clean and dry.

3. Anti-corrosion treatment: If necessary, the 304 stainless steel welded pipe can be subjected to anti-corrosion treatment, such as coating with anti-corrosion paint, to enhance its corrosion resistance.

In summary, 304 stainless steel welded pipe is favored for its excellent performance and wide application fields. During use, attention should be paid to its maintenance and care to ensure its long-term stable operation.
