How to Treat Steel Pipe to Prevent it from Rusting?

Date:2023-06-14    keywords: steel pipe rust, steel pipe surface treatment
The steel pipe is a steel product, and there is a problem of being oxidized and rusted in an open-air environment. The longer it is used, the greater the possibility of rusting. For example, after a carbon steel pipe is rusted, it will be corroded, its performance will decrease, it will become more brittle, and it will break easily, which will bring risks in use. So how to prevent the steel pipe from rusting? You can refer to the following three methods.

1. Alloying to change the internal structure of iron.

For example, adding chromium, nickel and other metals to ordinary steel to make stainless steel greatly increases the rust resistance of the steel.

2. Covering a protective layer on the surface of the steel pipe is a common and important method to prevent iron products from rusting.

According to the composition of the protective layer, it can be divided into the following types:

① Coating mineral oil, paint or firing enamel, plastic spraying, etc. on the surface of iron products. For example: carriages, buckets, etc. are often painted with paint; machines are often painted with mineral oil, etc.
② Plating a layer of metal that is not easy to rust, such as zinc, tin, chromium, nickel, etc. A dense oxide film can be formed on the surface of these metals to prevent iron products from rusting due to contact with water, air and other substances.

③ Use chemical methods to form a dense oxide film on the surface of iron products to prevent iron products from rusting, such as the roasted blue on the saw blade.

3. Keep the steel pipe surface clean and dry.

a. To protect steel pipes from moisture, especially seawater and rainwater, it can be coated with waterproof paint or paint.
b. Regularly clean and maintain the steel pipe to remove dirt and rust on the surface, and professional cleaning and care agents can be used.
c. Coating a layer of antirust agent on the surface of the steel pipe can effectively prevent the steel pipe from rusting.
d. For steel pipes exposed to the air for a long time, they can be treated with preservatives to increase their oxidation resistance and corrosion resistance.
e. During the storage and use of steel pipes, care should be taken to avoid collisions and frictions, so as not to damage the protective layer on the surface.
