Flange Inspection Standards and Methods

Date:2024-05-23    keywords: pipe flange, flange inspection standards and methods, flange connection

What is a flange?

Flange is also called flange flange disk or flange. Flange is a common pipe fitting that connects pipes, equipment, valves and other components. It is a circular component that is usually used together with bolts. The pre-tightening force of the bolts is used to make the sealing surfaces between flanges closely fit. , to achieve the sealing performance of pipelines and corresponding interfaces, as well as a way to facilitate the repair and replacement of pipelines. It can be seen from this that the flange mainly plays the role of connection and sealing.

Flange is a common pipe connection method, used to connect pipes, valves, instruments and other equipment, and plays a very important role in industrial production. In order to ensure the safety and reliability of flange connections, strict inspection is required. Flange inspection refers to the quality inspection of flange connectors when they are installed and used.

What is a flange connection?

Flange connection is to fix two pipes, pipe fittings or equipment on a flange plate first, add flange pads between the two flange plates, and fasten them together with bolts to complete the connection. Some pipe fittings and equipment already come with flanges, which are also flange connections. Flange connection is an important connection method in pipeline construction. Flange connections are easy to use and can withstand greater pressure. In industrial piping, as well as in homes, the pipe diameter is small and the pressure is low, with no visible flange connections. If you are in a boiler room or production site, there are flange-connected pipes and equipment everywhere.

According to the connection method, flange connection types can be divided into: plate flat welding flange, neck flat welding flange, neck butt welding flange, socket welding flange, threaded flange, flange cover, neck butt welding ring Loose flange, flat welding ring loose flange, ring groove flange and flange cover, large diameter flat flange, large diameter high neck flange, eight-shaped blind plate, butt welding ring loose flange, etc.

Inspection standards and methods for flanges:

Flange inspection standards:
1. International standards: including ISO, DIN, ANSI/ASME, JIS and other standards.
2. Industry standards: including petrochemical, electric power, steel, mining and other industry standards.
3. National standards: including GB, JB, HG and other standards.

Flange inspection items:
1. Dimensional inspection: including inspection of dimensional parameters such as the inner diameter, outer diameter, and thickness of the flange.
2. Compatibility test: Test the compatibility of flange connection materials to ensure that there will be no corrosion or oxidation reaction between the connection parts.
3. Friction coefficient inspection: Check whether the friction coefficient between flange connectors meets the standard requirements.

4. Leak detection inspection: Check whether there is leakage in the flange connection to ensure safety and reliability.

Flange inspection method:
1. Visual inspection method: Visually inspect the flange connections for surface defects, oxidation, deformation, etc.
2. Metrological inspection method: Use measuring tools to detect various dimensions of flange connections.
3. Mechanical property testing method: including testing of mechanical properties such as tensile, impact, hardness, etc.
4. Leak detection method: Leak detection of flange connectors through various leak detection methods.

Precautions:
1. Inspection should be carried out in accordance with corresponding standards to ensure the accuracy and reliability of the inspection results.
2. The flange connectors should be cleaned before inspection to ensure that the inspection results are true and reliable.

3. For some special-purpose flange connectors, corresponding inspections should be carried out according to their uses and requirements.
